International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has published the ISO 22000: 2005 standard on food safety management systems (FSMS) - Requirements for any organization in the food chain, to provide a framework of internationally harmonized requirements for systematic management of safety in food production. Following the publication of the ISO 22000 certification, S.O.P. Assessment has adopted this international standard, such as IS / ISO 22000: 2005. By the Codex Alimentarius Commission and combines the HACCP prerequisite programs (PRSPs), this standard combines the principles of risk analysis and critical control points (HACCP) developed. Risk analysis is the key to a safety management system because an effective food risk analysis helps organize knowledge to create an effective combination of controls. It requires all the hazards that can reasonably be expected in the food chain, including the hazards that may be associated with the type of treatment and the facilities are identified and assessed. Therefore, it helps to identify and document why some of the identified risks need to be managed by a particular organization and why others are not needed.
The ISO 22000 family of international standards deals with the management of food safety. The consequences of unhealthy food can be serious, and ISO standards for managing food safety help organizations identify and control hazards. While many current food products routinely cross national boundaries, international standards are needed to ensure the security of the global food supply chain.
For a food safety management system ISO 22000: 2005 specifies the requirements in which an organism in the food chain must demonstrate its ability to control food safety hazards in order to ensure the safety of food at the time of human consumption.
It applies to all organizations, regardless of size, that participates in all aspects of the food chain and wants to implement systems that consistently provide safe products. The means to meet the requirements of ISO 22000: 2005 can be achieved by using internal and/or external resources.
What is ISO 22000 food safety management?
For all companies in the food chain, ISO 22000 is suitable including interdependent organizations such as producers of equipment, packaging materials, cleaning products, additives and ingredients and is a truly international standard.
ISO 22000: 2005 is also aimed at companies wishing to integrate their quality management system, for example, ISO 9001, and their food safety management system.
The purpose of ISO 22000
ISO 22000: 2018 defines the requirements for a food safety management system and can be certified. It describes what an organization needs to do to demonstrate its ability to control food safety risks to ensure food safety. Regardless of its size or position in the food chain, it can be used by any organization.
For the certification of food safety management systems, ISO has developed the ISO 22000 standard. The standard aims to ensure safety by ensuring that there is no weak link in the food supply chain and to achieve international harmonization in the area of food safety standards.
Role of S.O.P. Assessment in food safety certification ISO 22000: 2005
S.O.P. Assessment has a team of auditors, lead auditors and technical experts who can perform a value- added audit and contribute to the continuous improvement of your organization. The S.O.P. Assessment team can perform the audit in two stages and you are entitled to the ISO 22000: 2005 certification required by your client or for the purpose of a call for tenders.
